When someone is near death, a band appears around that person's neck. The darker it becomes, the less time the person has left to live. The weak Michiru Kita has the rare ability to see these bands and discovers that her classmates Chika and Shito have them... and they are completely black! Through them she encounters the Zombie-Loan agency, for which Chika and Shito must work hunting down zombies in order to repay their loan to stay alive. And her ability to see the marks around people's necks would make Michiru a great asset for their job... If she is willing to help.

Weak and timid Michiru never stands up for herself. Because of her "Shinigami eyes" she has the ability to see when a person is nearing their death. She wears glasses even though her eyesight is fine because she hasn't fully accepted her ability.

Chika miraculously survived a horrible accident that took place half a year ago. In truth, however, he actually lives as what some would call a "zombie", although he (and Shito) don't like to be referred to as that. Now, he has to work for Z-Loan and pay back the debt for changing his fate. As a hot-blooded and short tempered guy, he dislikes it when things don't go his way and is willing to do all it takes to pay back his debt.

Involved in the same accident as Chika, he also survives thanks to Z-Loan. His personality is kind of puzzling, but the girls in school view him as the "cool type" because of his mysteriousness and good looks. When he talks he gets straight to the point, but when others talk to him he doesn't listen, especially when Chika is talking to him. And, despite his intelligence, when it comes to things involving the internet he's completely clueless.
